While Christ was on earth, he spent every moment honoring God until the day he willingly went to the cross, died, and later was resurrected in glory. Today, Christians can offer this same honor and love for God through the liturgical seasons. The liturgy gives Christians an opportunity to take part in the same self-offering that Christ gave to His Father. In the same way, the seasons and celebrations in the liturgical year give shape and form to the Christian way of life. "The liturgical year is like a wheel, ending where it begins. Yet, from one year to another, the Great Light, which entered the world in Bethlehem and conquered death on Easter Sunday, continues to spread and grow. One day the light of Christ will sink into us completely, take hold of us, and resound in us and the entire world" (LTP, 2010).
Advent, and later Christmas, offers us opportunities to remember Christ’s birth and our Baptism which shapes our worship, prayer, and life. This year, we engage in liturgical celebrations, Posadas, and prayers of the faithful. In this, watch for the seasonal change and joy within us and others.
