It is no secret that most Bible studies and church offices are filled with a disproportionate number of women. Why is this? Because as St. John Paul II wrote in his Apostolic Letter on the Dignity and Vocation of women, “Christ speaks to women about the things of God, and they understand them; there is a true resonance of mind and heart, a response of faith.Jesus expresses appreciation and admiration for this distinctly ‘feminine’ response.” (n. 15)
This is a great gift and the reason why many women are more naturally inclined to faith and to be involved in Church ministries.
However, this gift comes with the task of bringing that faith and love of God they experience into the home and sharing it with everyone, building a culture of faith at home. Motherhood is not only the physical giving of life, as we see in so many generous hearts who have adopted and welcomed children into their hearts and homes.
The education of character and virtue as well as the spiritual formation of your children, the communication of grace and Christ’s life to them, is a continuation of your motherhood and a sharing in the motherhood of the Church.
Thank you to all our moms who have given us life and have brought us to Church to receive the life of Christ in the Sacraments!
